There are so many options when you’re a parent, so many decisions to make and so many opinions about the right thing to do. But the truth is, only you can make these decisions and only you know what will be right for you.

Our antenatal and baby feeding sessions in Killearn, equip all parents with the knowledge and skills to plan for a positive birth experience and navigate all these parenting decisions with confidence.

Family Maternity

Antenatal Classes and Doula Sessions

Our antenatal courses based in Killearn are for couples who are expecting their first baby, and for families expecting a sibling.

Every course is tailored toward meeting the needs of each couple as much as possible within the group. We'll explore vaginal and caesarean birth alongside infant feeding (breast, bottle and formula), transition into parenthood, parent craft and postnatal recovery. Considering all birth environments (home, midwife led / midwife alongside and hospital) we look to place parents at the centre of their experience. This aids informed decision making and positive birth and feeding experiences, alongside a more restful postnatal recovery.

All of the information covered is evidence based and sits alongside traditional doula practices. These traditions have been past on by birth and postpartum doula's from across the world.

As a Traditional Postpartum Doula, I offer an antenatal group doula session that compliments the antenatal classes. These are woman only sessions, focusing on postpartum recovery, transition from baby-in-womb to a mother-in-arms; nurturing the mother and holding a space for connection with other mothers. These sessions are an additional extra at the end of the Trossachs Antenatal course; or can be taken as a stand alone session.

This is just a brief snip-it of what we will cover antenatally . For more information on the antenatal classes and antenatal doula sessions, please click on "book a course" below.  If there isn't a date that works for you, don't hesitate to get in touch. One-to-one sessions or additional class can run if we have 2 or more enquiries. Antenatal classes run with a minimum of 3 couples and a maximum of 8. Antenatal doula session run with a minimum of 3

These classes can make up part of your Trossachs Antenatal classes or can be booked independently of the antenatal element.  It is a couple courses that explores how too breastfeed and how to support breastfeeding in the early days. We also explore trouble shooting, breast health, benefits and considerations of breastfeeding, expressed breast milk, bottle and formula feeding.

As a breastfeeding counsellor, I know and understand that breastfeeding can be as hard as it can be easy. One of the strongest and positive influences I have witnessed in a successful breastfeeding journey, is the support of the partner. Therefore, as part of this course, I teach and support the partner as much as I do the mother. This is so mum has continued support postnatally, and partners are supported as they support mum.

Rosie and Laura

Who We Are

 Laura Hansom

My name is Laura Hansom. I’m a qualified and NCT licensed antenatal practitioner and breastfeeding counsellor. I’m also a traditional postpartum doula out with NCT. Helping patents feel informed, at the centre of their experiences and nurtured through their birth and postnatal journeys, is key in the work I do.

I qualified in 2019 with the National Childbirth Trust (NCT), I now deliver antenatal and breastfeeding education across the north/ northwest of Glasgow and Stirlingshire. I do this through NCT, alongside my own practice, Trossachs Antenatal. Through Trossachs Antenatal I also deliver community based and one-to-one breastfeeding support and traditional postpartum doula services.

My qualifications include:

FdSc Birth and Beyond: Antenatal Practice and Breastfeeding.

2019. PGCert: Breastfeeding - Centre for Breastfeeding Education and Research.

2023 (Part of my IBCLC training).

Optimal Birth - Biomechanics for Birth. 2024.

Red Tent - Traditional Postnatal Doula. 2024.

Volunteer Birth and postnatal doula for Amma Glasgow. 2024

Rosie Heptonstall

Like Laura, I also trained with the NCT. Following completion of their antenatal pathway I began facilitating antenatal courses in Glasgow South in September 2021. After completing the Birth and Beyond foundation degree in 2022 and qualifying as a Breastfeeding Counsellor, I started offering breastfeeding sessions and support to complement my antenatal courses.

I also work as an NCT breastfeeding peer supporter in two of Glasgow’s neonatal units, helping mums who have been separated from their babies to express their breastmilk and then transition to breastfeeding, if they decide too.

I love the work that I do - not just having the opportunity to support people at such a special time in their lives, but also having the privilege to hear people’s stories and learn from their experiences. I’m adapting my practice all the time, so that it better suits clients’ needs and incorporate knowledge they’ve gained from lived experience.
