Doula Rooms

"A mother nurtured in the community contributes strongly to society" because " her strength is not as an individual but a a collective".

Mauri Wisdom(Whakatauki)

In supporting new families I have witnessed what I have termed, " the birth of a mother". This occurs in the first few weeks postpartum, where maternal confidence is gained and connection with other mothers is sort. But in our modern world, connections can be hard to make postnatally.

The traditions that celebrated the transition into motherhood in western society, have been muted. There is now a huge expectation for new mothers to be everything at once, to be out and about within days of giving birth.  This is not the way it should be! Bodies, minds and our new sense-of-self need time to develop, recharge and recover.

The Doula Rooms may be able to help with this. It is an alternative or an addition extra to a modern antenatal class. It helps to celebrate the ending of baby-in-womb and welcomes in  new beginnings, mother-in-arms, a baby, a new family, a new community, a new belonging.

This session for woman only and focuses on maternal connection and nurture through a mothers circle. In this circle we explore the postpartum period and what it means to be connected through our experiences. This is a safe place where mothers can bond without the pressure of learning and exploring course content.

Activities can include but are not exclusive to; guided relaxation, gentle pregnancy yoga, sharing fears and knowledge, Robozo, massage, traditional postpartum foods and plant based teas/ drinks to enjoy on the day. Recipes for these foods/snacks/teas and recipes for oils and bath soaks, are gifted as part of the session.

Group sizes are limited to 6 per session.
